What are the symptoms of a herniated disk? I know that I have problems with my sciatica, but more symptoms are appearing. It may all coincide with my sprained ankle but I don't know. I went to Urgent Care the other day for severe lower and mid back pain. The doctor suggested my physician do an MRI to rule out a herniated disk.

  • Herniated disc symptoms of the lower back include intense pressure in the lower back (sometimes sharp acute pain right on the spine), muscle spasms and pain in the butt area, and shooting sciatica type pains down the back or sides of your legs (to the knee or feet). There may be numbess in various locations from butt to feet but if you get numbness in your groin or have problems using the bathroom - get to the doctor quickly as this is a serious condition that can occur with a herniated disc (caudia equina) that causes irreversible damage in some cases if you don't get to it quickly. The best way to determine a herniated disc is an MRI.
