My husband was diagnosed with RA 3 years ago. He has since had 2 total knee replacements and healed well.
He did go back to work a little too soon though.

A big problem he is having is a painful swollen ankle.
He takes no medication except Advil or Tylenol Ones. He did a course of Mexotrexate but found the side effects out weighed him taking it anymore.

Any clue what could be causing this pain and swelling?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Don't mean to be a smart aleck, but there is no cure for RA. The swelling & pain is caused by the disease he is not treating. Painkillers only mask the symptoms, they do nothing to halt the progression on the disease. Please encourage him to try a diferent tx , there are a large variety of DMARDs available.

  • I take Glucosamine with Chondrotin (3000mg or 1500mg twice a day double up on bad days) then MSM for pain. I started on 1500 mg, twice on bad days...what a difference! I'm off of Motrin now and I was taking 800mg twice a day.
