Hi,

After a long bowt of having an upset stomach and diarhea, approx 2 months, i went to the doctors. They thought that it looked like IBS but ran tests, i believe with IBS they would expect everything to come back normal.

However, the results showed that i had low iga and low igm levels....and everything else normal. It seems that they are a bit confused as to what could be casuing this, and obviously i am very worried myself.

They sent the information to a specialist who again didn't come aback with much, but said they was a small chance of Leukemia...but seeing as i was otherwise healthy and normal the doctor thought this highly unlikely, i also ask whether it could be something like HIV.

Major worries:

Is this an indication of Leukemia?
Could this be an indication of HIV infection?

Any advice/help would be really appreciated.

Thanks

  • What's your status now? Have they done an SPEP (serum protein electro phorisis) to check you for a monoclonal gammapathy, lymphoma or multiple myeloma? Have they done a metastatic bone survey? The monoclonal gammapathy does affect your autoimmune system and can lead to other complications (like pheripheral neuropathies). If you haven't done so please ask your doctors about the SPEP and depending on the results ask about a metastatic bone survey. Have you been checked for HIV? If not, go ahead and bite the bullet and do it. Let us know how you are doing.
