Hi All.
I am so glad that i found this site:).A year and a half ago i Injured my knee, getting into a black taxi cab.I did not lift my leg up properly and tripped and landed on my right knee in the cab.The next day i was in agony, could not walk on it at all,or bed my knee.I went to A & E,had an xray done, and the doctor told me that nothing showed up on my xray, and that i had probably bruised it,so i was told to rest it for 6 to 8 weeks, and was given crutches.Well the pain got worse and my knee got no better,so i went to my GP,who reffered my to a Physiotherapist,he then booked me in for a MRI scan. When i went back to the Physio for my results,he said that i had Athritis in my knee and also i had a mensicus tear.I asked him,"are you sure that i have athritis?,as the doctor in the A & E,said there was no sign.My physio said yes i can see it,and dont know why the doctor told you that it wasn't present.Anyways, cut a long story short.I had to have the mensicus tear fixed, which was done. When i went for my post op appointment, the surgeon, who operated on my knee had left,i was told that he didn't work there anymore,so saw another surgeon,he looked at my xray, and said all was well.I told him,no its not,i am still in pain, lots of pain, and my knee is still swollen, could that be the athritis i asked.Athritis?Hmmm some doctors are to quick to call it athritis, you just have a bit of wear and tear:eek:I was told by this surgeon, that it was only 9 weeks since my op,and to give it time.I asked him, what if i am still in pain in a few months time,he said that there was nothing that they could do:rolleyes:
Well i am in agony,i can hardly walk with my knee.I take a few steps and i get such a sharp pain in my knee, that i cannot walk any further. The swelling in my knee has never gone down either.I was so shocked when the surgeon who operated on me had left,as after the op,he said to me "See you in 9 weeks time, for your post op":confused:and the hospital never gave me a reason for why he had left. Can anybody advice me,i am wondering if my meniscus has torn again.Any replys i would be truly grateful, sorry for going on.Meant to say,its been 6 months since my knee op,it was key hole surgery through my knee.

  • Hi, I am a physical therapist. I do hope that after your surgery you had some exercises given that you are continuing to do. It is not uncommon for the surgery itself to be successful (the tear was removed) but the patient to have lingering pain. The reason is that the surgery itself creates swelling, limited mobility of the knee and muscle weakness. These are the things that can continue to cause pain. At a minimum if you are having pain I would have you apply ice for 10 minutes a few times a day. Check out this website and follow the specific exercises: http://www.joint-pain-solutions.com/meniscus-tear-exercises.html If possible, try to use a stationary bike, lightly, for 10 minutes a few times a day. I hope this helps.
