When my arms are by my side I can not raise my left arm but about 3
inches. What is wrong with it? When I try to raise it I feel pain in my left shoulder but thats about it. I can bend it fine at the elbow.

  • I had something similar caused by doing too many push ups without warming up and that fact that it easy to over stress the left arm if the right arm is is stronger. It sounds like adhesive capsulitis or locked shoulder which requires a brief observation / analysis of your arm movements by a qualified doctor to verify the condition and some physical therapy and do-at-home exercises. May take several weeks or months to get back to normal. Don't do nothing otherwise your shoulder may lock up, muscles may atrophy, and the healing process, if it occurs may take a really long time. When exercising, warm up, go easy, learn to monitor yourself, and stop or modify your movements as soon as you feel the slightest bit of pain in your shoulder.
