I took a fall on my bike on July 15th. I knew something was wrong and the pain unbearable, but I still had to ride 10 miles to get to my car. I went to the ER (I've got Kaiser) and was told I had broken my elbow. They put a splint on it and sent me home.
I got a call about 3 days later from the fracture clinic to come in the next day (July 17th). I went in not knowing what to expect as I have never broken anything before. I met with as Orthopdic surgeon and he said I had a fracure in my lower arm bone (I have since learned it's a fractured radius head, thanks to his notes and the internet) He said it could heal OK but then it might not and could cause arthritus down the road. He gave me the option to have surgery where he would put 2 scews in. Honestly I didn't know what to do so I started asking questions. I could tell he was getting irrated with me...then I don't know what came over me but I asked "Do you have a lot of experince doing this type of surgery?" He said yes but he was getting more annoyed with me. He said the only time he could do the surgery was July 21, a Thrusday. I expressed concern at that because I wasn't sure if my husband could take the time off,so the Dr. said he could call his partner and see if he could do it on Sat. As he walked out the door my big mouth opened and out came "Does he have experince too?" The doctor left for a moment then came back and said I needed to come back in a week and see someone new and get a second opinion. So now that I have had time to research my break I'm concerned that it will have started to heal. If so,what then? Did I totally scew up? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
