I am 52 years old. I thought what was going on was anxiety, but unsure now. I have an issue at home that causes major stress in me. My daughter has had alot of drug related issues for years. Her bad choices have caused a mountain of stress. Im hoping this is why Im having the symptoms that I am. The majority of symptoms only occur when I am dealing with her. Normally, I am a very calm, patient person. But when under stress, I get very angry and want to blow up. My head feels like its going to explode and I have tons of negative feelings. I love her and dont want to feel this way around her, and try very hard to corall these feelings. I go for long drives, exercise, do anything to relieve the stress. Sometimes the urge to scream and yell are overwhelming and I cant control those feelings. I dont know if this is simply me being in a stressful situation or if i cant cope well. I havent talked with my physician about this and unsure if i should see him or a psychiatrist.

  • I understand exactly how you feel inregards to stressful situations. I also have a troubled son who is in and out of trouble all the time, basically all his life. He was diagnosed with ADHD when younger and now has Bipolar Disorder. He is in and out of jail alot....has poor impulse control @ the best of times. I tend to keep things bottled up inside and am a very patient person also. My question to you is...are you depressed and or are you anxious alot of the time? Due to the stresses in my life I saw my family Dr who gave me Celexa an antidepressant for Anxiety and situational depression. So far it works well. Do you have support from family and friends inregards to your daughter and her drug problems etc? I found with myself...I got tired of talking about my son's problems as they were never ending it seems. This also isn't a good thing as talking it out helps ease the stress and anxiety of the situation. Personally I would start with your family dr and talk to him/her about whats going on in your life first. If you have coverage for a therapist....cant hurt to have someone on the outside looking in to talk it out. Take care hon As EvErCat

  • Thanks, Cat...I am pretty much in control of depression. I do get depressed, but know what i need to do to get myself out of it. I do get very anxious concerning my daughter...when she lived away from home for almost a year, my anxiety almost diminished, shes back now and I get upset very easily. Ive never taken any meds except for mild depression..i stopped them cause they didnt work very well. I do have lots of support from family and friends. I have taken her to alot of counselors for her drug abuse, bailed her out of jail, tried to get her back into college (at my expense)..everything, i have tried. She tries, but always falls back to the lifestyle. I love her and have never given up, so I feel I need to always be a safety net but not an enabler. I think this is the source of most of my emotional issues.
