Periodic anal itching for the past 4 days

For the past few days, there have been times during which I've had intense itching around the anus. I did some research and the most likely cause I could find was Pinworms. I'd sure like to believe that isn't the case, and I'm not totally sure whether it is. Every source I've read notes that the itching will take place primarily at night or early in the morning: my discomfort doesn't seem to have much of a 'trend', though sometimes it's very uncomfortable for a few minutes after passing a stool. I think it's possible that dietary abnormalities may have contributed; about a week ago I went through a jar of peanuts pretty quickly, and I normally never eat them. Some sources I've read noted that eating nuts can contribute to discomfort around the anus. I practice good hygiene, so I don't think it's a matter of neglect.. Does anyone have any advice or suggestions? I'm at school so seeing a doctor would be a pretty big inconvenience: I'm hoping to sort this out on my own, if possible.

Thank you!
