I was diagnosed with fissures this past October. The Doctor gave me a steroid and it helped for about two weeks, but it came back. I tried looking up information, using hydro-cortisone creams from the drug store, polysporin, vitamin E oil, all would work for a couple of weeks and then it would come back again.

I am a 23yr old female, a vegetarian, I drink LOTS of water and get plenty of fibre in my diet (I've even included Bene-fibre iin my diet since this started). Stool is soft ALL the time, but it still hurts.

I'm getting so fed up, I have no idea how to fix this, I feel like I've tried everything!

I started having problems about a year after they were born with Anal fissures...I have completely stopped eating due to the fact that the pain is absolutely unbearable to handle. I have been to a proctologist, used EVERY cream out there and I STILL have this issue. Currently I am using Zypram but only on day 2 so not sure how well it will work. I am praying to God that something helps this because it is ruining my life. I just wanted to reply and let you know your not alone. Try getting some Lidocaine ointment from your doctor is numbs the area while you have a bowel movement. I am sick of living this way so let me know if you encounter any miracle cream or procedure!Have a blessed day~

  • I went to the doctor and she gave me a medication called Procto-foam. Its a steroid you put in/on after a BM and at night before bed. Its helping a LOT; its not completely gone, but it helps so much with the pain. Thanks for responding!

  • I have been suffering from a fissure for 4 years now. Pain is so bad and difficult to describe to someone who does not have this problem. I do four things that help: 1) Go on a juice fast to lesson the number and size of bowel movements. I have gone on 7-10 day fasts the day after I start bleeding from a fissure. 2) Use a warm water enema to really ensure that the stool does not tear the fissure; 3) Take Miralax every night; 4) Put ice directly on the anus. The problem I have is I'll have 2-3 months of no problems and then with one wrong bowel movement the fissure tears open. I am nearing the point of surgery.
