I don't know if I am posting this in the right section, but if someone could help me with this, I would greatly appreciate it. For some reason, I turn extremely red in the face and body. This has been happening to me a few years now, and I really just started noticing how red I turn. I don't know how or why it happens...and it's not just my face either, my neck, arms, and chest turn red as well. Sometimes, it's spontanious, and I just turn red for no reason whatsoever, and then there are other times when I get nervous, embarrassed, and I turn red. The weird thing is, is that I can be talking to someone that I am completely comfortable around and i'll turn red. So it's not just when i'm nervous, or embarrassed. But It happens soo quick, it takes like 1 second for my entire upper body to turn red. People get turned off when i turn red, and they quit talking to me or they look away so they aren't staring at this red faced person. But anyway, I don't smoke, drink, do drugs, and i'm not on any form of medication. This is really messing up my social life, and if there is anybody out there that can help, you would be a life saver. I'm 19 years old, and tryin to get through college and hold a job, and this problem of mine doesn't make it easy at all.

Please, someone help me out.

  • I have this same problem only it doesnt affect my chest... just my face and hands. Some information:-I use clean and clear lotion and acne wash, i forget the name but its for gentle skin.-I drink a lot of diet pop and pop that contains caffiene -i consume pop just about everyday-I get red by exercising also.-I can't remember when the redness occurred, but it definetly has not been with me my whole life, and my hands just recently started to turn red, which they never have before.-I do not know anything about it running in my family-When my hands turn red I feel my pulse and I feel my blood flow, (best way to describe it)-Sometimes when i feel the reddness coming on, i think of being CAREFREE and can control it, other times it's the compelte opposite

  • Wow. I am so glad I found this site. I cried too! I'm really scared that this may be something a lot more serious than I though it was. I have been getting this random flushing since November 2007... so about 5 months now. It started right after I started to use YAZ birth control. I used that for a whole month starting early November. And by late november I remember getting my first flushing experience at work. I continued with the birth control because I didn't connect the two. I continued to get real flush sometimes... though at that time it was rarer. I thought it was just a phase my body was going through and would eventaully go away. After one month of the birth control I stopped using it because I didn't have the money to buy it. And when I stopped using it... I can't remember getting the flushing anymore. But I went back on it about a month later... and started to get the flushing really bad... I stopped the birth control after about two weeks... thinking that must have been why I was getting beat red in the face for no reason... or in heat... when i was embarrassed or mad.... But I still have it and it is getting to the end of March now! And it's gotten worse. I have recently been getting blotchy on my neck now too. I don't know if it was the birth control or not... but Its the only thing I could think of that could have caused it. But i've been off of it for so long now... and am still getting the flushing. I have been on several different acne medications though. I don't think they are the reason for this flushing. It isn't a side effect listed for any of the drugs I've tried to help my acne. Now I'm on Spironalactone for my acne. Which seems to be working great. I am gonna stick with this medication and I have been on it now for almost two months. Since I've gotten the flushing the only two medications other than Spironolactone that I used were Solodyn which is a name brand for minocycline (which I started at the same time I started the birth control... and only toke for about a month.) Then I started on Bactrim. I only stopped using it because it was a sulfur drug and I got a mild rash on my stomach from it. So I donno if those drugs could have anything to do with it.... but before I used Bactrim and before I used Spironolactone... I've had the flushing... so I def. don't think they are the cause. Maybe Solodyn???? Sigh. I'm so lost at what this could be. What is causing this. I'm so determined to get rid of this. It's so embarrassing and uncomfortable. My whole face gets beat red and my ears too and It's soooo hot. I feel like my face is on fire or something. I'm trying to get into college for next fall. I really want this to go away before I go. :-( I'm really worried this may be something serious. Like a tumor or lupus! I have had a tumor before... Called cholesteatoma when I was little. A cholesteatoma is a skin growth that occurs in an abnormal location, the middle ear behind the eardrum. It is usually due to repeated infection, which causes an ingrowth of the skin of the eardrum. Cholesteatomas often take the form of a cyst or pouch that sheds layers of old skin that builds up inside the ear. Over time, the cholesteatoma can increase in size and destroy the surrounding delicate bones of the middle ear. Hearing loss, dizziness, and facial muscle paralysis are rare but can result from continued cholesteatoma growth.I had a really bad ear infection back in October. They said I didn't have another tumor. But since then it did get better with the medicine they gave me. But lately It's been hurting and also fluid has been running from my ear. The same ear I had the tumor in before. Soooo.... I donno if that could have anything to do with this flushing either. I'm just thinking up all of the things it could be... I'm going to the Doctor Wednesday March 26th. I have a physical. And i'm gonna print out this forum and the information I found on this site : http://www.clevelandclinicmeded.com/medicalpubs/diseasemanagement/endocrinology/flushing/flushing.htmAnd take it with me to the doctor and tell him/her (possibly cry to him/her) to please help me get rid of this embarrasing random flushing. It's so upsetting and scary. I can't stand this anymore. I Will def. post what the doctor has to say. And if he gives me any medicine to try... or anything else. I hope I can really finda cure for this. I'm gonna ask about the Paxil CR. (used for the treatment of aniexty) Maybe it is just a hormonal thing... and I've developed aniexty... that causes the flushing. Maybe this will be all I need. That would surely be great news for me. PLEASE PLEASE post on her if anyone has found something that worked for them. It would be soooo helpful and really appreicated. Thank You KARYN

And yes, it can cause a rash and flushing as a side effect. Plus, this drug is for High blood pressure - it is a strong diuretic...this drug can cause high potassium levels in your blood, which is a potentially dangerous condition. Please get your potassium levels checked by your doc! Please post ALL meds you are currently on. Please consider a more holistic approach to treating your flushing, as medications like paxil are just going to cause more side effects! I cannot stress this enough: DOCTORS DON'T CHECK FOR SIDE EFFECTS OF DRUGS OR INTERACTIONS OF DRUGS. All drugs have side effects, some of them severe (yasmin is very scary for instance). Please be an educated consumer and visit www.drugs.com or www.rxlist.com to find out all of the possible side effects of a drug you may be taking. Best wishesDOM

But I hope that since my acne was never that severe that it'll just be mostly mild. And that this flushing will go away. I am a member of acne.org .... a lot of people on acne medications including spiro seem to experience this flushing so... I am taking your advice... and going to stop all medications... even topical.... other than a gentle cleanser and aloe lotion. I really really just want my body to go back to its normal self... even with mild acne... at this point the flushing and redness has gotten soooo bad that I'd much rather deal with mild acne and have my body be back to it's normal healthy self than use drugs that cause more problems... especially this... It's so uncomfortable and effects me every single day. Do you think as long as I stop taking this medicine that My body will go back to it's normal self and will stop all this flushing????? I pray to god that it does.

I pray to god that it does. The fact that you have acne means that your body is not in balance. There are many causes of acne, sometimes hormonal, sometimes food allergies, diet etc. It is an outward manifestation of an internal inbalance. I think it's great that you are going off the meds. Please get yourself a good probiotic. And you might want to try an acne supplement by Futurebiotics - forget what it is called but you can find this on www.vitacost.com. The reviews seem very promising on this supplement, but I haven't actually tried it (Futurebiotics is an excellent brand). The idea is to get your body back in balance so you won't have future outbreaks. The above website has the best prices for supplements on the web...check them out! I have suffered from adult onset acne for the past six years or so. For me, hormonal issues were a factor, but I also found myself to be dairy/cheese intolerant. I have gone through a series of treatments called NAET and am now a certified NAET practitioner. I still ocassionally get an acne flare up, but nothing like I used to - NAET really helped my symptoms. www.naet.com for more info. www.acne.org is a fantastic website. I recommend their site to my patients with acne. I have also found the Mary Kay products, especially their acne cream, to be really helpful. No I am not a rep and never thought I'd be recommending their products:rolleyes:. But they have really helped my skin! Best wishesDOM

  • Hi there, This is in reply to the 19 year old with the flushing and acne issues. I am fair skinned, a red head, and used to have issues with acne when I was your age. NOT the flushing though, at that time. I have used witch hazel for YEARS to wash my face. I never use soap, any acne creams, nothing else. I make sure I use it in the morning, and at night to remove make up. During the summer, when it is hot and I can feel the "oil" I will use it more frequently. I gave some to my 16 year old grandson who plays sports and he uses it all the time. It is worth a try.

  • I really feel bad for you because it's hard when you don't get a break from it. I see the commercials for ProActive so often on tv, and I wonder if you thought of trying that. There is a money back guarantee, so you can't go wrong. Some products for acne can aggravate the flushing because it may make your face too dry. Don't give up and keep your faith in God. o wow everyone i share you feelings to find out that there are others with this horrible happening. • Wow. I am SO comforted by reading all these replies. Just like everyone else, I flush at the slightest thing, ESPECIALLY situations where I'm the center of attention. It's gotten to the point where it's absolutely unbearable, and I've had such horrible experiences with it, I cry myself to sleep sometimes. I've considered it to be Hyperhidrosis, but I'm also taking Bactrim and Differin for acne, so I'm really clueless at this point. It's funny how we all have the same symptoms, and yet no one has a real explanation. I wonder if it's some strange illness that has yet to be discovered...well, not discovered, but 'classified'. I really can't live like this anymore. I used to only have it on my neck and chest, and that was bearable, but now it has spread all the way up to my face. Even during the winter I have to wear T-shirts, otherwise I'm afraid I'll get too hot, and I can never wear cute v-neck shirts because I don't want people to see the redness and blotchiness on my chest. I've already scheduled an appt. at the Mayo clinic, but still, I don't know how much longer I can take this. I'm in my senior year of highschool, and I don't want to go into college like this. Especially when I'm going to FL! The heat will NOT make it any better LOL.Shelby
