I have an addiction to online gaming and most Dr.'s i have seen dont think its a real addiction. How can i get help for this and get my dr. to see its a real addiction

Anyone here that thinks online gaming or video gaming isnt addictive you wrong. For example me no matter how hard i try and resist i cant stay away from World of Warcraft it has gotten so bad its affected my friends where i dont have any execpt for those on WoW {World of Warcraft} my relation with my daughter is suffering so is my housework.

Now i know ppl will say get rid of your comp or your internet but that is harder to do then u think. I have tried canceling my internet only to go nutz and order it back as for getting rid of my comp i cant first of all it took me over a year to get it and 2nd my daughter uses it for school

Now what can u suggest that can help when even Doctors dont think what u have is a real addiction

  • Its so hard to stop playing wow. If you don't play then you don't know. I'm trying to quit playing the game myself. I tried uninstalling but found myself installing it back a day later. It's really ruining my life.

  • I had a family member with the same problem. It is a real problem and I saw it first hand. What helped was a job and a girlfriend for this family member. But, you may need several things, plus a support group. There is help and hope. Don't give up!

  • Video game is a VERY real addiction. It destroyed my marriage and my girlfriends marriage as well. My ex would spend days at a time engrossed in game land and had no concept of his home life. He eventually quit his job and grew severely depressed. If you are really serious about wanting to stop, you are on the right track. Several years after my divorce my ex finally chose to seek counseling. Video game addiction can stem from an underlying problem. Depression for one. Try talking to someone in your area...this is a growing problem. There is a counselor out there that can help you if you don't feel that you can do it yourself. Best of luck to you.

  • I've gone through online addiction and kicking the habit. This was back when there was a charge per hour fee to use the internet. I spent thousands of dollars monthly, shut myself off from the outside world, slept for about 3 hrs a day (usually from 6AM to 9AM), hygiene out the window, no work or school, etc. It was pretty serious. Honestly, this is like any other non-physically dependent addiction - you have to want to change, have will power, and just do it. When you get the urge, do something else. Leave the house, cook a meal, take a walk, ride a bike, go to the gym, ANYTHING. I'd actually try to fill your schedule with so much stuff that you don't have the option to game. I'm sure therapy could help, but in my experience you just have to decide you want to stop, KNOW you can stop, put a plan in place, and then do it. Don't be weak. PS - you likely can't game in a MMORPG type environment ever again. MMORPGs are designed to hook you. You need to perform repetitive tasks over and over, you get rewarded for these tasks, sense of accomplishment, rinse and repeat. Search on the internet for game addiction and why it happens, it might shed some light on your situation.

  • Buddy, I have gone through problems close to yours, though it was minor "Fallout 3" I got over it when i beat the game, I didn't play online but I couldn't leave it alone, I played from when I woke up till bed time. After doing some research for you I have found a great site that will actually help you and others with this problem, The link is below and I personally know its extremely hard to kick but keep your head up and things will get better. "When you fall get back up, dust your self off, and keep on moving." Take care and good luck Happy Holidays -02040matthttp://www.olganon.org/
